     Inspired by the delicate decorations of the French faience, Moustiers ,  luncheon plates are decorated with linear  motifs centered around depictions of 6 different saltimbanques, the itinerate street/circus performers.

This luncheon set for four is decorated with the four principal characters of the musical "The Mikado"  The salad and dessert  and hors d'oeuvres plates are decorated with the Japanese lanterns suspended from  bamboo poles.  The charger plates are decorated around the perimeter with Japanese elements representative of the land of "Chichibu" the setting for the story.

Inspiration  should never be an excuse to reproduce or copy.  Inspiration must cause some aesthetic response in one's being and prompt us to ask the question of what is causing this response?  It is insufficient to answer the question by merely "liking" something.
